The breast tissue and skin are lifted through the incision, either above or underneath the pectoral muscle (chest wall muscle), to create a pocket where the implants are positioned beneath the nipples.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for breast augmentation is a non-smoking adult in good physical health.  These women should have realistic expectations of the procedure and maintains a stable weight.

Breast Lift

Over time, the effects of gravity along with the loss of the skin's natural elasticity begin to have an effect on the appearance of a woman's breasts.  These factors, combined with pregnancies and nursing will often cause the breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness.

Breast feeding did a number to my breast. The breast lift brought them back to their youthful appearance. Patient DH

THE PROCEDURE

Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape drooping breasts by the removal of excess skin and repositioning the nipple and remaining tissue. A breast lift can restore the shape and firmness of the breasts, as well as reduce the size of the areola. Breast implants can be placed either above or beneath the breast and major muscle groups in the chest area in conjunction with a breast lift to increase volume and size.

THE METHOD(S)

Dr. Jones can perform breast lift surgery within two to three hours.  In order to determine the best breast lift technique, the size and shape of your breasts, size of your areolas, and the extent of sagging are all taken into consideration. The number and length of incisions needed varies on the individual.

Breast lift techniques include:

  • Circumareolar or "Doughnut" Mastopexy - incision around areola only
  • "Lollipop" Mastopexy - limited incision around areola with vertical line
  • "Inverted T" Mastopexy - incision around areola, with vertical and horizontal lines
  • Augmentation Mastopexy - breast lift and breast augmentation with breast implants

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for breast lift surgery is a non-smoking adult with drooping breasts, downward pointing nipples/areolas, and breasts lacking substance or firmness. The patient should also be in good physical health and depending on the scope of the work, should be realistic about the results of their breast lift surgery.

RECOVERY / POSTOPERATIVE

  • Typical bruising and swelling of the breasts for at least one to two days
  • Slight discomfort for up to seven days post surgery
  • Following the removal of bandages or surgical bra - soft support bra should be worn for three to four weeks
  • Stitches removed in stages over a period of approximately three weeks
  • Resume normal activities within one to two weeks following surgery
  • Return to work within five to seven days

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excessive fat, glandular tissue, and skin from large and pendulous breasts, to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

The results of breast reduction surgery is likely to enhance your self image and relieve you from the pain and physical limitations experienced prior to breast reduction.

The relief of the pressure on my shoulders and the indents from my bra is priceless. – Patient MS

THE PROCEDURE

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and may last for about three to four hours. The technique used to reduce the size of your breasts will be determined by your individual condition, amount of reduction desired, breast composition, your personal preferences and Dr. Jones’ recommendation.  In some cases, excess fat may be removed through liposuction in conjunction with the excision techniques described below.

THE METHOD(S)

The most preferred technique involves making an anchor shaped incision around your nipple and areola and following the natural crease down the under surface of your breast. Excessive glandular fat tissue and skin are removed and the areola and nipple are reconstructed to a new position on the breast.

The incisions are brought together to reshape the reduced breast. Sutures are layered deep within the breast tissue to create and support the newly shaped breasts; sutures, skin adhesives and/or surgical tape close the skin.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The idea candidate for breast reduction is a non-smoking adult who has large, pendulous breasts and/or suffers from chronic headache, and upper back or neck pain. It is also important for the candidate to have realistic expectations of the results from breast reduction surgery.

RECOVERY / POSTOPERATIVE

  • Incision lines are permanent, but in most cases will fade and improve over time
  • An elastic bandage or support bra may be worn to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal
  • A thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess blood or fluid that may collect
  • Slight discomfort for up to one  to two week post surgery
  • Resume normal activities within two weeks following surgery

Buttock Augmentation

Buttock augmentation or the "Brazilian Butt Lift" is a method made popular by celebrities such as J Lo to produce a fuller, up-lifted, and rounder buttock. Studies have shown that many people find that a fuller buttock is more attractive and creates a sensual frame.

I’m so happy with the way I look in pants and jeans. I have hips and a fuller butt, which makes me feel more feminine. – Patient MV

PROCEDURE

The Brazilian butt lift involves the use of excess fat from various areas on the body including the abdomen, back, hips, waist, thighs, and arms as needed to be transferred and augmented into the buttocks.  The Brazilian butt lift can either fill up deflated buttocks or simply enlarge the buttocks as requested.  Buttock augmentation with micro fat grafting has become the preferred choice over butt implants due to lower complication rates and an easier recovery process.

METHOD(S)

The Brazilian butt lift involves a selective gentle liposuction technique which harvests fat from different areas of the body.  Afterwards, the fat is transferred into the proper areas of the buttocks in multiple layers through small syringes connected to micro canulas of 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter.  Micro fat transfer begins within deep layers of the muscle in an interlacing fashion and works slowly toward the superficial fat layers just under the skin. Dr. Jones then injects the fat deposits in areas of the buttock desired to be augmented in order to produce the desired appearance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate must be a healthy, non-smoking adult with a significant amount of excess fat available for harvesting and micro injecting. It is also important for the candidate to have a realistic outcome of their post surgery results.

RECOVERING / POSTOPERATIVE

  • Control garment must be worn for up to two to four weeks

  • No sleeping on back for three weeks

  • Minimize sitting on buttocks for three weeks

  • Temporary swelling and discomfort

  • Most swelling and bruising diminishes within four to six weeks

  • Most patients return to work after one week

  • Normal activities may resume approximately three to four weeks

Liposuction

Now among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, buttocks, waist, hips, abdomen, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms.

Prior to liposuction my thighs kept me from wearing shorts. Now I can fully enjoy hot summer days. – Patient LM

THE PROCEDURE

Liposuction, the most popular surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States, involves a hollow stainless steel tube (cannula) and vacuum to remove localized fat deposits beneath the skin through small incisions. Liposuction can be performed on a number of body areas including the thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest, checks, chin and neck and calves. Liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures such as a breast reduction, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), or a Brazilian butt lift.  In many cases can be done under local anesthesia.

THE METHOD(S)

Dr. Jones implements several approaches to liposuction including standard liposuction, power-assisted liposuction, and laser-assisted liposuction:

  • Standard liposuction utilizes various cannulas (hollow, stainless steel tubes)
  • Power-assisted liposuction utilizes oscillating cannulas which pre-tunnel the tissues and is especially helpful in difficult areas. Power-assisted liposuction allows surgeons to effectively perform higher volumes of liposuction without burn risks, trauma to fibrous tissues, and in faster time

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal liposuction patient is a healthy, non-smoking adult. Liposuction is an option for those who would like to remove excess fat deposits and have realistic expectations and goals for body contouring.  Fat deposits may form as a result of the lack of weight control or exercise and or inherited family traits.

RECOVERY / POSTOPERATIVE

  • Adherence to post operative and recovery instructions are critical and mandatory
  • Transportation post surgery strongly recommended
  • Possibly up to several months for swelling to completely disappear
  • Some supplements and vitamins are prohibited to reduce prolonged bleeding

Mommy Makeover

Few women can regain their pre-pregnancy shape through diet and exercise alone. Pregnancy and breast-feeding often result in unwanted changes in a woman's body, such as drooping breasts, enlarged areolas, stretch marks, a sagging tummy, and pockets of fat in the abdomen. The loose muscles and stretched skin improve somewhat over time, but the body never completely returns to the way it was before pregnancy.

After my kids went to college I wanted to take care of myself. Dr. Jones removed 10 years from my life. – Patient HJ

MOMMY MAKEOVER: BREAST LIFT

The aftermath of pregnancy can leave you with sagging, uneven breasts, lost breast volume, drooping nipples and stretched areolas. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to reverse these changes and return a youthful shape and lift to your breasts. This is accomplished by trimming excess skin and tightening supporting tissues to achieve an uplifted, youthful contour. After a mastopexy, the breasts are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch. Breast lifts after pregnancy can also reduce areola size and reposition downward-pointing nipples.

Your post-maternity breast lift will be tailored to you, depending on your individual case and goals. Breast size does not change after a breast lift, nor does the fullness or roundness in the upper part of the breasts. Women who desire larger, smaller or more rounded breasts may want to consider a breast augmentation or breast reduction together with a breast lift.

MOMMY MAKEOVER: BREAST REDUCTION

Most women find that their breasts swell to a fuller size and shape while they are pregnant. Afterwards, a natural reduction in breast size leaves some women with the empty-looking, drooping breasts discussed above in the breast lift section. For many other women, however, the breasts remain larger than desired after childbirth. Breast reduction surgery may be the solution in these cases.

One reason women may seek breast reduction after giving birth is to return the breasts to the smaller size they had before becoming pregnant. In addition, breast reduction can relieve the common symptoms of large breasts, such as pain, improper posture, rashes, breathing problems, skeletal deformities and low self-esteem. Breast reduction achieves these goals by removing fat and glandular tissue and tightening skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a healthier proportion to the rest of the body.

MOMMY MAKEOVER: TUMMY TUCK

Perhaps nowhere else on the body is pregnancy more unforgiving than in the abdomen. By stretching and weakening the skin and muscles of the tummy and waist, pregnancy can leave you with loose skin, stretch marks and a straighter waistline that no amount of exercise will correct. A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, can help.

Tummy tucks help to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess skin and tightening muscles. The result is a firmer tummy and more defined waistline. Our doctors have been performing abdominoplasties with excellent cosmetic results for many years.

MOMMY MAKEOVER: LIPOSUCTION

New mothers may find that they have pockets of fat in the lower abdomen that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. They may also find that they have lost definition in their waistline. Women who had C-sections may also suffer from areas of fat hanging over their surgical scar. Each of these post-maternity body changes can be improved through liposuction.

Liposuction sculpts the body after pregnancy by removing undesirable, resistant fat from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks and/or thighs. It offers the opportunity to slim and contour areas of the body that did not "spring back" to their pre-baby tone. With liposuction, you can minimize areas of fat caused by pregnancy and enhance the curve of the waistline.

Tummy Tuck

Diet and exercise sometimes do little to eliminate unwanted fat and loose skin in the abdominal area. If you are bothered by these appearance problems, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may be a good choice for you.

I always felt that I had to do something about the excess skin. Dr. Jones gave me the confidence to take the step towards making the adjustment. - Patient DJ

THE PROCEDURE

Abdominoplasty, best known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin, tightens abdominal wall muscles, and eliminates stretch marks between the belly button and pubis region. This surgical procedure creates a smoother and defined abdomen by addressing 3 components of abdominal wall deformity: (1) loose skin and stretch marks, usually a result of aging, pregnancy, or significant weight loss; (2) muscle weakness, which can occur as a result of pregnancy and; (3) excess fat tissue, commonly accumulated in the lower abdomen.

THE METHOD(S)

A tummy tuck requires Dr. Jones to make an incision, typically below the bikini line that extends from hip to hip along the lower pubic area. The excess skin is stretched and removed to strengthen and flatten the abdominal muscles. Depending on the scope of the work necessary, the time in surgery for a tummy tuck is approximately two to four hours.

Dr. Jones' preferred tummy tuck technique is the classical abdominoplasty.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a non-smoking adult with weak abdominal muscles or excess fat and skin.  Other good candidates may have protrusion or laxity of the abdomen

RECOVERY / POSTOPERATIVE

  • Mandatory compression garments post surgery for 12 weeks
  • A temporary thin tube applied to incision to drain any excess blood or fluids that may accumulate
  • Temporary swelling and minor discomfort during the first four weeks
  • Return to work and light activities within two weeks
