Brow / Forehead Lift
The effects of aging are inevitable and often the brow and forehead are the first areas to tell the tale of history. Their skin loses elasticity and sun, wind, gravity and lifestyle choices result in frown lines, wrinkles and heavy eyebrows. It is common for people just over thirty to have faces that look older than their years. The tired, angry or sad expression you are projecting to the world may not be accurate and it could be affecting your success interacting with others. As a result of this many opt for a forehead/brow lift.
Everyone says I look great but they can’t tell what changed. Dr. Jones did an amazing job with a subtle lift. - Patient CJ
A forehead lift, also known as brow lift, is a surgical procedure that restores a more youthful appearance to the area above the eyes. The procedure improves lateral hoods and horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.
Prior to the procedure an examination of your facial structure, the condition of your skin, hair line and the muscle activity when you assume facial expressions is necessary to determine which surgical approach will best achieve your cosmetic goals.
The skin and tissue affected by furrowing or drooping are removed to smooth the forehead and raise the brows. The classic surgical method of performing this procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours, and includes a coronal incision, following a headphone-like pattern, running from ear to ear and across the top of the forehead
The ideal candidate for a forehead/brow lift is a non-smoking adult, in general good health in the 40 - 60 year old range. Although, frequently those younger than 40 request the procedure if they have prematurely excessive furrowing and furrow lines.
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Temporary numbness and discomfort around the incision
- Swelling for up to a week
- Bandages are removed one or two days post surgery
- Stitches or clips are removed within two weeks
- Resume work or school in a week to 10 days
- Vigorous physical activity should be limited for several weeks
A chin implant or chin augmentation is a fairly common procedure and often accompanies rhinoplasty, a face lift, or cheek implants. It may dramatically improve your facial definition and profile. After my surgery, I wanted to take pictures everyday to show off my new look and side profile. – Patient AL
Chin augmentation, or chin implant surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour and involves the insertion of solid, silicone material that may come in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Typically placed through an incision made inside the lower lip or through a natural skin crease located beneath the chin. Your doctor will select the implant that will best enhance your appearance and insert the it into a pocket created over the front of the jawbone.
The ideal candidate is a non-smoking, healthy adult. This person may typically have a “weak chin” and look to create definition in their face line
RECOVERY / POST OPERATIVE
- Temporary discomfort in the chin area for several days post surgery
- Sutures removed within one week
- Swelling and discoloration subside within several days
- Resume light activities in three to four days
- Resume strenuous activities within one to two weeks
Ear surgery - also known as otoplasty, ear surgery can correct defects in the ear structure and improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear. Protruding or disfigured ears can be embarrasing and affect our ability to project confidence from the time we are even small children. Otoplasty can help to create a natural shape that brings balance and proportion to the overall look of the face. Correction of even minor deformities can profoundly benefit self-esteem.The best experience and decision I’ve made thus far. – Patient PB
Ear surgery also known as otoplasty, is typically performed to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Ear surgery can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear, or correct a defect in the ear structure that may have been present at birth, but became more apparent as development progressed. Otoplasty can also be used to correct defects that occured through injury.
Dependent upon the individual and the technique employed, otoplasty can take two to three hours. One of the more common techniques includes the creation of a small incision in the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage. From there the cartilage will be sculpted and bend backward toward the head. Permanent stitches may be used to help maintain the new shape.
Children who are healthy, without a life threatening illness or untreated, chronic ear infections are good candidates for ear surgery. However, the child must be cooperative and able to follow instructions well. Teenagers and adults who are non-smokers with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind are also good candidates.
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Temporary discomfort for three to five days post surgery
- Temporary head dressing to protect the ears
- Stitches typically removed or dissolved within a week
- Adults may return back to work in approximately five days post surgery
- Children may return back to school in approximately seven days post surgery
Eyelid Surgery / Blepharoplasty
Each year over 100,000 men and women choose blepharoplasty to improve the way they look. Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can also impair vision. Blepharoplasty corrects these problems and also removes puffiness and bags under the eyes that make you look worn and tired. Blepharoplasty does not correct dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it change sagging eyebrows, so although it is typically performed as a single procedure, you may also require a browlift, facelift, or skin resurfacing to achieve the best results.I always appeared sleepy, but now my eyes are brighter and I look more alert. – Patient OS
Blepharoplasty commonly known as eyelid surgery, removes the excess fat and drooping skin from the upper or lower eyelids or both, to rejuvenate your appearance. The removal of fat deposits minimizes bags under the eyes and tightens the lower eyelid skin.
Variations of blepharoplasty include:
- Upper eyelid surgery: Removes fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids.
- Lower eyelid surgery: Removes excess skin and wrinkles on the lower eyelid as well as corrects droopiness and bags under the eyes
Eyelid surgery usually takes from one to three hours, under local or general anesthesia. The doctor will make incisions in the creases of the upper eyelids and/or below the lashes of the lower eyelids. The placement of the incision lines is designed to minimize visible scarring. Once the incision is made, the doctor will separate the skin from fatty tissue and muscle, remove excess fat and trim drooping skin/muscle. In instances where there is no drooping skin to be removed, the doctor may make an incision line just below the lower lash to just remove excess fat.
The ideal candidate for eyelid surgery is a non-smoking adult, without predetermined, serious eye conditions. Healthy facial tissue and muscles is desired. The patient must also have realistic expectations for the outcome of the surgery.
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Temporary eyelid swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eyes
- Results of eyelid surgery will appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside
- Temporary discomfort and irritation at the incision sites is possible
- Stitches will be removed two days to a week after surgery
- Avoid strenuous activities for two weeks after surgery
Facelift / Neck Lift
A facelift/neck lift or “rhytidectomy” addresses the negative effects of aging. As we mature with the soft tissue of our cheeks and neck descend due to gravity. The aging process affects different people at different times, so there is no “right time” per se to start thinking about a facelift.I was nervous about the outcome of a facelift, but Dr. Jones was patient with me and made me feel comfortable. I love the results. – Patient DS
Dependent upon the degree of change you would like to see, facelift procedures are often combined with neck contouring, chin implants, or eyelid rejuvenation to restore a more youthful, rested appearance. The procedure is aimed at restoration without changing the natural definition and features of a person's face.
Generally the procedure can take up to 3 hours and improve visible signs of aging, such as:
- Fat that has fallen or is displaced
- Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
- Sagging in the midface
- Loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls
- Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw
During a traditional facelift the doctor will begin with incisions in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and end in the lower scalp. Fat may be redistributed from the face, jowls and neck and then the underlying tissue is repositioned. Often times the deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted. Skin is then re-draped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. A second incision under the chin is sometimes necessary to add the additional benefit of a more youthful neck. Once healed, the incision lines from a facelift should be nicely concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear.
The ideal candidate is a healthy, non-smoking adult. It is important for the candidate to have a positive outlook and specific, but realistic goals in mind for the outcome of the procedure.
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Minimal pain and discomfort
- Stitches are removed within one week
- Swelling and discoloration subside within two weeks
- Resume normal activities in 10 to 14 days and
- Resume exercise and strenuous activities in two to three weeks
Lip Augmentation or Reduction
Lip augmentation assists in achieving facial balance and harmony. Lip augmention has become increasingly popular as more people become intrested in enhancing thier facial features. Lip reduction can improve QOL tremendously. Lip that are too large can affect daily routines such as eating, talking, or performing good oral hygiene.I didn’t realize I could make my lips smaller until I visited Lexington Plastic Surgeons. They did such a wonderful job at making it look natural. - Patient GJ
Lip augmentation as well as reduction achieves permanent results and improves lip shape and size to the patient’s desired look and in proportion to their face. Lip procedures are sometimes performed in conjuction with rhinoplasty, facelifts & implants.
Lip procedures may provide the following benefits:
- Enhanced or reduced size of lips to satisfy aesthetic desires
- Revision of previously botched lip augmentation from the injection of too much silicone
- Reconstruction for people born with congenital defects such as cleft lips
- Recnstruction for accident or burn injury cases where lips healed with excess tissue
Generally performed under local anesthetic but ultimately dependent upon the extensiveness of the procedure, lip procedures can take one to two hours. For reduction, an incision is typically made inside the lip and then a small section of tissue is removed. The incision is then closed with sutures.
The ideal candidate should be in overall good health and a non-smoker. Candidates should always have realistic goals for their results
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Temporary discomfort
- Swelling and bruising subsides within one to two weeks
- Patients will be required to maintain a soft diet for two to three days after the procedure
- Patients will be able to return to work in two to three days
- Patients will be able to resume normal as well as strenuous activity within one week
Nose Surgery / Rhinoplasty
Every year millions of people seek consultations with facial plastic surgeons to improve the appearance of their noses with Rhinoplasty. Some are unhappy the way they were born, some need reconstruction from an accident or for improved breathing and others find the shape of their nose has changed undesirably due to aging. The nose is the most defining characteristic of the face and a slight alteration can greatly improve one's appearance. If you wondered how rhinoplasty could improve your looks, self-confidence, or health, you need to know how rhinoplasty is performed and what you can expect. My nose has always been too big for my face. I definitely have no regrets about having my nose done. – Patient YD
Rhinoplasty also known as a “nose job” is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance, proportions and balance of the nose including the nasal tip and nostrils. Aside from aesthetic appearance, surgery of the nose is also used to correct difficulty with breathing. For example, a deviated septum causes breathing impairment, which can be corrected by adjusting the nasal structure to improve alignment.
Rhinoplasty can be performed in two ways, "open", where an incision is made across the columella, the strip of tissue that divides the nostrils, or "closed" a LPS procedure of choice where incisions are hidden inside the nose to reduce visible scaring. A typical rhinoplasty procedure lasts two to three hours.
The ideal candidate is a non-smoking and healthy adult with realistic expectations. To consider rhinoplasty you should at least be in your mid-teens to ensure the development of the nose has stabilized.
Recovery / Post-Operative
- Temporary bruising may extend to the eyes and other areas of the face
- Nasal cast must be worn for seven to ten days
- Nasal tampons may be placed in the nose for up to three days
- Most bruising and swelling should disappear within two weeks
- Return to work in seven to 10 days
When the skin is in the process of recovering from an injury, whether the result of an accident, surgery, a burn, or acne, scarring will occur wherever multiple layers of the skin have been affected. Once a scar forms, it is permanent but may be made less visible or relocated surgically. With very few exceptions most people are self-conscious about facial scars. Some people may also experience diminished functioning of the eyes, mouth, or nose due to scarring. If you've wondered how facial scar revision could improve your appearance, your self-confidence, or your level of facial functioning, you need to know how scar revision works and what you can expect from this procedure.I didn’t think it was possible to remove my scar but Dr. Jones did an amazing job. – Patient CSV
Scar revision is a surgical procedure to improve or reduce the appearance of scars. It also restores function and corrects disfigurement caused by an injury, wound or previous surgery. Scars are formed when the skin is damaged in some way. Scars are permanent visible wounds and are unpredictable in their development. Although a scar cannot be removed completely, Dr. Jones can improve the appearance of a scar by making them less noticeable.
Many factors affect the severity of scarring including the size and depth of the wound, blood supply to the area, thickness and color of your skin, as well as the direction of the scar. If you are considering scar revision, it is important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon that can help you determine which procedure is best for you.
There are several treatment options which vary based on the type and degree of scarring, however, the Z-plasty is recommended. Z-plasty is a surgical technique that repositions a scar to more closely conform it to the natural lines and creases of the skin.
The ideal candidate for scar revision surgery is a healthy individual of any age who would like to improve the appearance of scars anywhere on their body. It is also beneficial if the candidate does not have active acne or other skin diseases in the area to be treated
RECOVERY / POSTOPERATIVE
- Temporary discoloration or discomfort will occur in the first two weeks
- Healing is expected to continue for several weeks
- Dressings may be removed after one to two weeks post surgery
- Minimal activity is advised post surgery
- Use of scar products (i.e. Keloid Care) and massages to the affected area(s) are essential for individuals prone to thickened or keloid scars
